Hi Orin,
I had heard about this list from a friend who seemed to have seen it in a google search. I wasn't intrested to join at the time, but yesterday I decided I would search and find where it is. I searched the following:

And there it was.

Hi,
I've visited this game and seemed to like it. It's the kind of roleplaying game, based on the DIKU codebase, and I look at it as kind of a break from the goal-oriented games, since it is not level-based, and is rather skill-based, and you don't need to have cash if you don't care. As far as I've seen, cash is used for buying drinks/food/equipment, like rings and stuff. There are no kind of stat-giving equipment, not as far as I've seen, at least. The mud has a background, story, it has a new fictional world made up with it's own tales and stories and traditions. Some of the guilds are, warrior, ranger, thief, fire elementalist, water elementalist, shadow elementalist, sourcerer, etc. Subguilds consist of, bards, stonecrafters, jewelers, and around 23 other things that I happily don't remember! There is no long-range tell, instead, you should stabblish a mental, telepathic connection.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about this mud is it's magic system. Here is the URL that gives a brief help on that:

Basically, unlike other DIKU based muds, (and 99% of the other fantasy fictional muds), you don't type "cast fireball <target>", but instead, each spell is made up of five sections:

The power level is how much magick you wish to invest in the spell. There are seven power levels: wek, yuqa, kral, een, pav, sul, and mon. A spell cast
at 'wek' power will be very weak, while one cast at 'mon' will be very strong.

Reach determines what the effect of the spell will be. There are two possible reaches: un and nil. Casting a spell with 'un' reach means that the spell
will take a 'real' effect. Casting with the 'nil' reach causes no effect at all, but the spell will still be cast. This is useful for practising potentially
dangerous spells that could anger or hurt those nearby. However, the learning curve for 'nil' spells is much slower than 'real' spells. Note that it is
illegal to cast spells in most civilised areas, and that magickers are generally feared, and disassociated from, by the rest of society.

The element, sphere, and mood determine the nature of the spell. The element is which elemental power will drive the magick, such as Ruk (earth) or Vivadu
(water). Sphere indicates whether it will give information, protect someone, cause harm, and so on. Mood is the 'attitude' of the magick, whether it is
aggressive, helpful, neutral, and so on.

Also, the general magic help URL is:

Tell me how you think about it?

Hello all,
I've been a member of this small, but rapidly growing mudding comunity since Orin posted the address on audyssey, but i couldn't have the time to post anything useful here. Which is shameful i know, but nothing to do about it.
I'm Robert Osztolykan, known as Robjoy, or Erion on muds, probably on a few hundred since i've tried lots of them, smiles. I'm mudding since… hmm, probably around the date when Parham started mudding, as we both began on Alter Aeon.
It's a bit hard to explain which muds i like, as probably i wouldn't be able to explain it to myself. I'd probably say custom codebase, manual combat, skill- or experience based, however not like on cyrcle and it's derivatives (e.g. 2 mill to level up from level 80 to 81, then 8 mill to level up again, etc). I'd probably choose roleplaying as well, featurerich environment (scenery objects, etc), questing (probably custom style too, not like on cyrcle-style muds, like kil this, return that to me, and you will get money, points, exp, etc).
Most of the codebases won't get through this kind of filter, like rom, merc, smaug, diku, cyrcle, etc. Mushes are also not my favourite ones, too much emotes.
Anyways, enough of my ramblings for now, i hope i haven't stuffed the list too much, smiles.

Happy mudding,
Rob

Interview, I see. Would that include asking how you feel when you are stuck in a ROM-based mud? Haha

Rom? Yuck, I hate Rom. You guys ever try something like Armagedan? That'll really put you to the test. And shrug, I can't spell it.

Welcome, Robjoy. I remember that one time you blasted the hell out of us on SoundRTS. Anyway, has anyone tried New Moon? It'd be awesome if the entire list could get together on there and do co-op quests, because some of those quests are hard, and no, I'm not talking about the tutorial, I'm talking about afterwards when the real game starts. Combat descriptions could get very detailed especially in magic areas when you're skilled enough. I really wonder why people have been playing miriani for so long, since there really isn't any change going on in that game whatsoever. The best game, in my oppinion, if you want a Rom codebse with a hell of a lot more, Medievia is the place to play. All of us should go on there and help each other level, because I couldn't help all of you due to me being level 27. Unless the admin changed the level caps to a reasonable rate. A lot of people say that game is Rubish for stealing code, but I highly doubt this. Besides, even if the admin did steal code, I wouldn't give a damn anyways, it's a fun game and I'm almost up to my first multiclass and I've had the character for three years I believe. Wow. And the great part about it is, if you remember your players nformation when logging in, it's there for ever, no kidding.

Hi Parham,

I actually didn't know this game was Diku. How interesting. They must've motified the entire thing from the ground up to make it like that.

Also, another game just plopped into my head for those of you in to scifi/cyberpunk. CyberSfear: http://www.cs.vv.com; kick ass combat descriptions around. Also, to get a sneek peek at some RP logs go here: http://www.newcarthage.net and go to the logs forum. Whenever you get through character creation meaning writing your description and that, you'll get an item cloth1 and cloth2. I could not figure out what for the life of me I was to do with them, so I'll have to recreate my character over again unfortunately. But, I've always also wondered where to find people, apparently when you go through advanced character creation you get to choose a gang and that, or whichever org you wanna join. Not certain on that though, but it's bigger than hell, if anyone's played that, and they aren't as greety. Well, they are roleplaying because that's just how the world is, but OOC they seem to be friendler than Hell's corrupted users.

Wow Hell is really nasty, i don't even know how could somebody make a mud like that. Besides, how could people play, and even pay for that. I remember having a discussion (heh, about 30 seconds, not more) with somebody on godwars 2 about hell. He said he's playing on hell. Of course i gasped and said "oh gods, how could you play on a thing like that? Skinning babies, raping, and such?" And then he said simply "Yeah, skinning them, and then eating them."
Hmmm… things like these really make me feel that maybe the world we live in is corrupted, but because of our own kind, humans. Someone had to start this all, though.
I'm really not that person who whines why can things happen as they do, but there are things which are simply just not right, and it seems nobody wants to change them, allthough they whine how bad they are. Oh well…
Reading about background, history, etc, i've always hate writing those, i'd rather rp it, somehow it seems more realistic than reading about somebody's background and then just saying in a rp way how nice it is, or asking about it while you do know the whole thing.
